This is my FET #2 cycle at 42 and half years old with donor eggs!! I decided to document this one a little more in detail, including numbers from the test results. The Beta Appointment 2 was November 6, 2023 despite when this post was published.
Today, I am 4 weeks- 5 days pregnant. This post is the 5th one in this series: I first shared my Baseline Appointment, Endometrium Appointment, the transfer appointment and the Beta Appointment. This is the Beta appointment 2, three days after the first Beta appointment and twelve days after the embryo transfer. Beta appointment just means they are doing bloodwork to measure the level of HGC.
I’ve just been in utter shock my first beta was so high. I admit I have zero experience knowing what are high and low HGC levels. My first beta with my first transfer was less that 50, so really anything is high to me. The first beta was Friday. The nurse wanted me to test again on Monday. The weekend was hard. I’m just so used to bad news that I’m not sure what to do with good news. Like I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop. I found myself asking myself if I was still pregnant. I was constantly feeling for signs in my body that made me feel like I was still pregnant.
I stayed really busy over the weekend. I don’t know about you, but I can do some serious cleaning when I’m worried or upset. The house might be clean, but my mind remains unmanaged. Like it felt really good to worry. It felt productive!
Before I left for work on Monday, my husband hoped for an HGC of 500, and I wanted to be stingy and hoped for 600. At lunch time, I drove myself to the clinic. This time they told me I’d have results before 5:00 pm that day. Back at the office, the call came when someone was at my desk. I quickly said I have to take this while I almost pushed him over, and ran out of the back door (not really, but it makes for a better story). The amazing part of the story is I grabbed a pencil with a broken lead, so when she told my HGC number was 827, I wrote it about one inch tall and 1/4″ thick lettering. It was actually perfect.

Call with the Doctor: the two beta calls have been with the nurse. November 8, 2023 was the call with the doctor. (that’s today) I’m combining this one just because there just wasn’t much to it. She said my numbers looked really great. Good news is so much better to hear! I need to continue the (2) tablets of Estradiol and 1 mL of the progesterone injection along with my prenatal vitamins and the plethora of supplements. She said that brown spotting is normal but red is not. I need to call her if I see red. Don’t be too shocked that I asked about twins because I had to ask. She said HGC has nothing to do with the number of babies, and I only have a 1-2% chance of having twins. OMG, I have a good chance of having twins!
My next appointment will be the 6-week sonogram on November 21, 2023. Thirteen days away.
One thought I’m practicing: It can be better than I imagined.
