On episode 17, we have Jennifer from Nashville, Tennessee. She was 43 during her pregnancy.
What do you do when the doctor says you don’t have a snowballs chance in hell at getting pregnant?
Jennifer’s journey to motherhood started at 35 when she decided she wanted to become a mother. She hadn’t been on birth control over the years, so she wanted help from a fertility doctor. Can you believe her first doctor told her she didn’t have a snowballs chance in hell at getting pregnant? After finding the right doctor, she had polyps removed and started the IVF process. She had 2 egg retrievals: 7 embryos and 3 were viable. Before transfer day, she meditated a lot she says and had acupuncture to help her relax. She had recently lost her Dad, but had so much hope for a successful transfer. She says her pregnancy was amazing!
I wasn’t against an epidural, but I wanted to see what my body could do.
Jennifer was induced at 38 weeks. She wishes she put her foot down and told the doctor she didn’t want to be induced before 40 weeks. She thinks it played a role with some of the things that happened with the birth. She says she wasn’t against pain medication, but wanted to see if her body could handle it. Being open to all the experiences pregnancy brings was how she looked at the whole process. She said she made a birth plan, but it didn’t go the way she planned it.
What made this Fabulous: Jennifer said she had an amazing pregnancy at 43! The doctor had a bad experience with a patient like her, so the doctor was more worried than Jennifer. Her morning sickness wasn’t bad. She had a little swelling, but she felt really good. With the extra appointments for the specialist, she was able to see her baby often which she loved. She said she meditated a lot to help her get over her fears.
Jennifer has 2 embryos lefts: a boy and a girl. Will she try for a second child? Now that she is 46, she says 2023 is the year they either get pregnant or not. She is releasing all the notions of being pregnant at 46. It’s just a number she says.
